Professor Li Chunming, Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of the People's Congress of Hubei Province and Secretary of the Leading Party Members’ Group, paid a visit to Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) on 14 October 2015 to learn about the campus life of MPI's first cohort of outstanding Hubei students. Meeting the students together with Professors Lei Heong Iok and Yin Lei, respectively President and Vice President of MPI, Professor Li encouraged the students to work hard and to prepare for a future contributing to the development of joint ventures between Hubei province and the Portuguese speaking countries.

Professor Lei noted that MPI had been entrusted by the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government to support Hubei’s training of Portuguese speaking professionals for the province’s better engagement in the development of the Sino-Lusophone trade service platform. As such, MPI had admitted for the first time four students from Hubei for this academic year. Majoring in Sino-Lusophone Trade Relations and Chinese-Portuguese Translation and Interpretation respectively, the four students had demonstrated outstanding performances in the National Higher Education Entrance Examination, with scores exceeding the Hubei benchmarks for admission to band 1 universities.

During the meeting, Professor Li shared with the students his personal experiences. He advised them to expand their knowledge base, equipping themselves with interdisciplinary knowledge and skills, so as to better contribute to the future development of Hubei Province and the country in trade with the Portuguese speaking countries. The students expressed their gratitude to the Hubei Provincial Government, Professor Li and the Macao SAR Government for the learning opportunities they were now enjoying at MPI. They applauded MPI for its ideal academic environment, student-centred philosophy of education and comfortable hostel facilities. They noted that they would build on their stage of life at MPI, making their contributions to their province and their country upon leaving.

Professor Li's delegation consisted of Zhang Dahua, member of the People's Congress of Hubei Province, Hu Zhushan, member of the Wuhan Municipal Standing Committee and chair of the Party Committee for the Wuhan East Lake High-Tech Development Zone, Yan Pingliu, Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of Hubei Province, Peng Quan, Deputy Director of the Hubei Provincial Department of Science and Technology, Yang Xinqiao and Zhou Wei, respectively Deputy Director and Secretary of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of Hubei Province, as well as Chu Cuihua and Hu Wei from the same Office.
