On August 31st, as the new academic year began, Mr. Ma Io Hang, member of the ninth Standing Committee of Hubei Province’s People's Political Consultative Conference and Vice President of the Office for Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Foreign Affairs, had a meeting with some outstanding MPI students from Hubei Province. The cordial meeting was also attended by Professor Lei Heong Iok, President of MPI and Assistant Professor Peng Yanchong

To assist with the training of Portuguese-speaking specialists for Hubei Province and thereby provide more effective support for the establishment of an economic and trade platform between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries, and having been entrusted by the Macao SAR Government and Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture to undertake this role, MPI has accepted four outstanding students from Hubei Province who are now studying on either the Bachelor of Social Sciences in Sino-Lusophone Trade Relations or Bachelor of Arts in Chinese-Portuguese Translation and Interpretation.

During the meeting Mr. Ma spoke about the development of economic and trade relations between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries, encouraging students to study hard in order to serve Hubei Province and the country with their best in enhancing economic and trade development between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries in the future. The students thanked the Macao SAR Government for giving them the opportunity to study in Macao, noting the pleasant learning environment and living conditions, and expressing their appreciation of the fine academic atmosphere and student-oriented educational philosophy at MPI as well as the comfortable dormitory conditions that had helped them adapt to college life so easily in such a short period of time.
