Over 4,300 Applications Received for Admission to MPI – MPI Programmes Most Popular Among Macao Students

The application period for admission to Bachelor’s programmes offered by Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) in 2015/2016 has ended and despite a decrease in the college-age population of Macao, with its internationally recognised education, vigorous campus life and the bright career prospects it offers, MPI has received over 4,300 admission applications and is, once again, the most popular choice among local secondary students for university education. In addition over 300 outstanding and talented students were recommended by local secondary school principals for admission to MPI, marking their recognition of the quality and standards of MPI’s education provision. In the new academic year MPI will keep forging ahead with the principle ‘Local Education Serving the Macao Community’ and recruit mainly students from Macao, contributing to the realisation of Macao’s ‘One Centre, One Platform’ development goal by supplying the community with yet more outstanding professionals.

According to MPI’s Registry the number of applications received this year is higher than last year and the quality of applicants very satisfactory. The admission examinations and interviews for over 12,000 persons-times have all been completed and the admission results announced earlier this month. Admissions to some programmes was highly competitive, with over 600 applicants competing for 30 places. The 300 plus students with principals’ recommendations are either academically high rankers or award winners in fields such as science and technology, sports, arts, debating, public speaking and English speaking. The MPI Registry stressed that MPI is student-centred, nurturing students’ whole-person development. They will continue to recruit mainly local students in anticipation of training more quality professionals contributing to the socio-economic development of Macao. In addition, the employment rate of MPI’s graduates has remained strong in recent years, their good qualities and performance being widely acknowledged by employers.

Some students with admission offers commented that they could identify with MPI’s educational philosophy and were very happy to have been admitted to their chosen programmes. They said they would work hard in the coming four years, leaving the Institute with all the knowledge and capacities they could gain from MPI’s learning opportunities and stay competitive in the future society. Some of their parents noted that MPI’s educational standards are internationally recognised and their children were admitted among fierce competition. They hoped that their children would also take the opportunity to join MPI’s exchange programmes and broaden their international vision.
