MPI’s teaching quality is highly regarded by international academic accreditation agencies

The annual meeting of the Asia-Pacific Quality Network (APQN) was held in Kunming, China in late April, and Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) was awarded an APQN Quality Award by APQN at the event. Dr. Jagannath Patil, President of APQN, spoke highly of MPI’s efforts in teaching and research quality assurance, and acknowledged and commended MPI on its good practices in academic quality assurance. MPI is the first higher education institution in Macao to have received such an honour with its teaching quality again being recognised by an international assessment agency. Other awardees included renowned academic assessment agencies and persons who have made outstanding contributions to education, including Dr. Judith Eaton, President of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), USA, and the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA, UK).

The APQN was founded in 2003, aiming at enhancing the quality of higher education in Asia and the Pacific region and establishing global standards and international best practice for international higher education quality assurance. 156 institutions and organisations from more than 30 countries and regions  are members of APQN, including the Tertiary Education Quality Standards Agency (TEQSA) of Australia and the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic & Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ).

MPI has long upheld the principles of student-centeredness and quality teaching, endeavouring to continuously improve teaching and learning quality, and responding proactively to the Macao SAR Government's policy of promoting academic assessment for higher education institutions. In 2013 MPI was comprehensively reviewed by an international authority in quality assurance for higher education,  the UK Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education, becoming the first higher education institution in Macao with a successful international Institutional Review. In addition, several of MPI’s programmes have been accredited or recognised by accreditation agencies of international standing and professional organisations. These are: Bachelor of Science in Computing, Bachelor of Accounting, Bachelor of E-Commerce, Bachelor of Social Sciences in Public Administration (Portuguese) and Bachelor of Arts in Music. MPI strives to strengthen students’ international competitiveness, aiming at strong international connectivity and the training of professional personnel that are able to effectively deal with the challenge of globalisation.
